What is TRĒ?
“TRE is to the body, what meditation is to the mind.”
If you were to observe someone doing TRE what you may see is people stretching and stressing certain muscles of the lower body. You may see people doing a wall sit and you also may see people lying on the floor shaking – on purpose. TRE is a wicked simple set of 7 movements that encourage the body to naturally shake off stress, tension and possibly past trauma. The shaking (which may seem weird at first) inevitably feels calming, similar to when a mother gently rocks a baby. You learn as the class progresses that you are in charge of the shaking and are shown how to turn it off at any time. You are in complete control.

TRE®, created by Dr. David Berceli, is a series of 7 exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.
TRE® is based on the fundamental idea, backed by research, that stress, tension and trauma is both psychological and physical. TRE®’s reflexive muscle vibrations generally feel pleasant and soothing.
TRE® is designed to be a self-help tool that, once learned, can be practiced independently or added to another wellness practice.
